After 33 years, Stephen (Fiennes) is released from prison. While incarcerated, he had been writing to leo project and receiving letters from a young boy, Leopold Bloom. Leo is having a number of problems at home where he lives with his mother, Mary (Shue), who sees him as nothing but a target for all her pain leo project and frustration. But Leo is a bright young boy with seemingly limitless potential; he simply has no support at home. When a class project encourages students to find a pen-pal, he begins his correspondence with Stephen, who sees this as a chance to help a troubled boy in need; perhaps saving himself in the process.
